As a Transport Planner, you are the link between drivers, customers and colleagues – a role where communication, insight and commitment are key.

After more than 20 years on the planning team, Dimitri knows exactly what makes this job so exciting.

“The evolution we have seen is enormous. The company's growth is reflected in the volume we now handle. The planning team has grown significantly, and digitalization has taken hold. I have embraced the growth and change, and as a result, I have evolved and grown along with it – that, too, makes my work exciting.”

What he believes truly makes his job valuable is the human aspect:

“We have a close connection with the customer – you essentially act as an account manager – and at the same time, I have a lot of contact with the drivers. I think it's important to understand their needs. Our French drivers, in particular, love coming to me: they know I understand them. Yes, my language skills come in handy here.”

Dimitri beautifully summarizes what it means to be a planner:

“A good planner doesn't just puzzle over routes, but also over people. You are challenged to constantly solve new situations, you have to think ahead and be able to adapt quickly. And when the planning is perfect and the driver leaves happy, you know you have done a good job.”

Wouter also strongly identifies with that human aspect the job brings.

“What appeals to me most about Mervielde is that I'm not a number. In our family business, everyone knows each other by name. That might sound trivial, but it creates a sense of community that you can't find everywhere.”

His background as a driver helps him in his work as a Transport Planner:

“I speak the same language as the drivers, know what's happening on the road, and can therefore better respond to their needs. My work is quite varied: from administration to meetings, welcoming drivers and ensuring everything runs smoothly. No two days are the same, and that's what makes it so fascinating.”

“We work with a group of great colleagues who help and respect each other. Friendly, helpful and respectful to everyone: colleagues, our own drivers and external drivers.
